The
Relais Antiche Saline was founded in 2005 after a meticulous, careful and well-accomplished
renovation of the ancient Baglio (farmhouse) of the Platamone Marquises. Wrapped
in the silence of the salt pans, it comes to life at sunset when the sky
turns orange, red, purple and blue, and in the warmer months the salt reflects
all the colours, creating a play of light of extreme beauty. The enchanting
location puts guests into a fairytale setting, light years away from the hectic
pace of modern life.
Yet
the Relais Antiche Saline is only a ten minutes drive from Trapani and
Marsala, a few kilometres from Trapani-Birgi Airport and from the Palermo-Mazara
del Vallo motorway.
It is situated near the sea, in the Salt Pan Nature
Reserve, facing the archipelago of the Egadi islands, scene of the naval battle
between the Romans and the Carthaginians in 249 BC and location for the Match
Race and the America's Cup sailing regatta in 2005. It is also a stones
throw away from a 16th century tower built to defend the area from attacks by
the Saracens In a stunning landscape, the Relais Antiche Saline offers
visitors a four star service and restaurant. The Relais Antiche Saline is completely
surrounded by the glittering pools of the ancient salt pans built by the Arabs
which are still cultivated by hand. It is immersed in the Salt Pan Nature Reserve
between Trapani and Marsala, Relais enjoying a truly unique and unusual setting.
Like a private, elegant lounge, the Baglio enjoys a breathtaking view of each
of the Egadi islands situated in the sea directly in front of the Relais. The
weather which is mild almost all year round, the nature with the spontaneous presence
of rare vegetation, with flamingos and herons at certain times of the year, the
high level of hospitality and catering makes a stay at the Relais a global, unique
and unforgettable experience.
